Easy Install Steps

Install PMI Evidence Tracker Version 7

  • Install the correct version of SQL Server on your Server or Stand-alone (26 min)
  • Create Evidence Tracker Database (2 min)
  • Install Version 7 Client and Connect (2 min)
  • Customizing your install to add clients (5 min)

 

Installation Options:


Semi-auto Options (run package / run client install - step 3)

Install Manager Package (New PMI customers) - Download semi-auto Full Install Manager Package (combines steps 1 & 2)

This package installs SQL Server 2012 SP2 (for the proper system type 64 or 32 bit), runs the Install Manager using our standard configuration settings, creates a new empty database structure and locks down the database. Use this package for NEW INSTALLS ONLY.


Upgrade Assistant Package (Existing PMI customers) - Download semi-auto Full Upgrade Assistant Package (combines steps 1 & 2)

This package installs SQL Server 2012 SP2 (for the proper system type 64 or 32 bit), runs the Upgrade Assistant using our standard configuration settings, attaches your existing database to the instance and locks down the database. Use this package for EXISTING PMI CUSTOMERS that are moving the PMI System to a new machine.


Individual Component Option

Step 1 - Install Microsoft SQL Server on your Server or Stand-alone

SQL Server 2012SP2 is the base of your new install. Our system needs a completely separate instance of SQL Server. Regardless of what you have installed for other programs already, you need a new instance of SQL Server.

Departments that use 64-bit Windows 7/8/10 or 64-bit Windows Server 2008/2012 as their server:

Download SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 64-bit. It's also available from the Microsoft website. Install the package named SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe.

Departments that use Windows 32-bit Windows 7/8/10, or 32-bit Windows Server 2008 as their server:

Download SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 32-bit instead. It's also available from the Microsoft website. Use the file named SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe.

Installation is very straightforward. Just follow the video and wait for SQL Server to install. Make sure you use a named instance, mixed-mode authentication, and set the SQL Browser service to automatically start.

We recommend naming the new instance "PMISQLEXPRESS" so your IT staff remembers what it is later.

Step 2 - Use Install Manager to install SQL Server DB files on Your SQL Server

Install Manager will ask where you want to store the data files and where you want to store the label templates / evidence attachments.

The data files are installed to C:\PMI by default. If you are IT staff and you would rather put them on the data partition specify that here. These need to be on a local drive. That's why we are installing SQL Server on the server.

The label templates / evidence attachments folder needs to be a shared network folder with read/write access to be useful. This is for two reasons. Users of the program need to be able to edit their label templates if they need to make a change. Also, users of the program need to be able to add files to this shared folder when they add file attachments to evidence in the program. A shared path is used so that all users can access the files as needed using the same path. IT will need to set the permissions for the folder accordingly based on who you want to add files and who you want to use files.

Step 3 - Install PMI Client and connect to your SQL Server

Download the newest client from the PMI Evidence Tracker support page and install it. Only customers with a current support contract can download the client.

Step 4 - Customize Your Install to Add Clients

Setting up a Client/Server? You'll need to turn TCP/IP on for SQL Server.

If your client has trouble connecting after enabling TCP/IP then you need to add an exception in Windows Firewall on the server.
